Abstract

French-type vertical flow wetlands are an attractive technology that have not yet been sufficiently explored in Mexico in particular and in Latin America and the Caribbean in general. Therefore, some of its benefits are illustrated. In order to reduce the problems caused by the use of water in small communities, this example presents a community meeting called by a mayor to which experts were invited and in which the inhabitants themselves participated. The exchange was interesting because it reflects the need to socialize knowledge in people who live in small communities and that they themselves can solve their health problems if they clearly know what the treatment of sewage or used water means. At the beginning, the design bases of this type of small French-type artificial wetlands are given.
