Abstract

Solid phase extraction is the most widely used technique as an option for liquid-liquid extraction in aqueous samples of triazines, which allows the retention of specific analytes in order to obtain clean extracts for chromatographic analysis. One of the alternative materials that can be used as a solid phase is chitosan, which is obtained in an ecological way through the deacetylation of chitin from shrimp residues of the species Farfantepenaeus aztecus and the use of a saturated mixture of chloride of calcium in methanol and water (CaCl2-MeOH-H2O system ©), ultrasound, and stirring. The mineralized chitosan product of the application of the CaCl2-MeOH-H2O system © was used as an adsorbent in the solid phase extraction for the preconcentration and quantification of triazine herbicides (metribuzin, promethrin, and terbutylazine) by gas chromatography with a flame ionization detector. The methodology proposed in this research included solid phase extraction, from the saturation of the pesticide mixture with NaCl, the application of the type of solvent and elution volume, the amount of adsorbent phase and the comparison of mineralized chitosan with two commercial cartridges. The mineralized chitosan obtained in an ecological way can be used as a solid phase in the EFS columns, since the final results of the extraction and identification were comparable with two commercial cartridges.
