Abstract

This two-part document compiles a wealth of research conducted by numerous scholars on Mexico's largest state-owned enterprise. It covers the period from the expropriation of the nation's assets held by foreigners, specifically oil, to the present day, focusing specifically on the part of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) that transforms this resource, produced by nature over millions of years, into goods that improve people's quality of life. The first part presents everything from crude oil and methane-rich natural gas to petrochemical products and concludes with an analysis of Mexico's current economic situation. In the second part, some improvement proposals are offered based on the author's work inside and outside Pemex in his almost 60 years of professional activities in this sector and it is concluded that ingenuity can achieve what money alone cannot: Offer improvement proposals for the oil transformation industry into useful satisfiers for people that are friendly to the environment. It is recommended to consider the reconfiguration of plants in light of the use of hydrocarbons not as fuels but as petrochemical building blocks, with all that this implies technologically.
